University of Canberra Stromlo Forest Park (UC Stromlo) is hugely popular with active families looking for an escape from the surrounding suburban and city landscapes.

Whether your kids are already confident on two wheels or just starting out, there is a track to suit all riding abilities. UC Stromlo is a great place for children to learn to ride a bike. We have a designated children’s learn to ride area located within the enclosed play area that is perfect for those who are still a bit wobbly on two wheels.

Criterium Circuit

The Criterium Circuit is a dedicated training area for cyclists and is frequently booked by training groups (cyclists, roller-skiers and more). If not in use, families may take advantage of the smooth surfaces and open areas the Circuit provides.

The Criterium Circuit is suitable for riders who can:

If using the Circuit:

A reminder that this is a training facility and it is not unusual for cyclists to reach speeds in excess of 40km per hour. Cyclists have priority on the Circuit. Be sure to check for bookings before visiting.

Mountain biking

The Playground is fantastic for kids big and small (parents, we’re looking at you too!) looking to develop and test their skills. There are plenty of obstacles, see-saws and jumps to tackle and the popular Rascals trail is ideal for building confidence and practising the basics.

Please note these trails are used by riders of all abilities, so be sure to share the trail and always move to the left for faster riders.

If your family have the skills to tackle the slopes, check out the trail maps (beginner trails to advanced). Please note all mountain bike trails are one way only. Riders may be travelling at high speeds, please see our page on park safety and trail etiquette.

UC Stromlo on foot

For those looking to explore UC Stromlo’s bushland by foot, there are various fire trails which run throughout the park. If you’re lucky, you’ll see kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, wombats, wallaroos, wedgetail eagles and other native animals along the way. If walking your dog, stick to the fire trails and keep your dog on a leash at all times.

Park safety and trail etiquette

The trails within UC Stromlo are used by walkers and other users, and most of the fire trails are also designated equestrian trails for horse riding. Please be aware, cautious and courteous at all times, particularly when crossing other trails and if you are new to UC Stromlo or it has been a while since your last visit, please familiarise yourself with our park safety and trail etiquette to ensure the safety of all riders.

Bushfire Memorial

Designed by Canberra artists, this memorial was opened to acknowledge the impact of the 2003 bushfires.
