Canberra is Australia’s top-rated city for cycling and it’s easy to see why with a network of quality roads and bike lanes, ease of navigation and excellent training routes for all levels of cyclists.

Criterium Circuit

The Stephen Hodge Criterium Cycling Circuit is Canberra’s dedicated world-class cycling track, one of only a few of its type in Australia.

The 1200m Circuit is 8 metres – 11 metres in width and provides a venue for local clubs and elite sports training and hosts national and international cycling events and races.

The flexible design of the Circuit allows for a long continuous loop or two 650m loops. All loops provide a mixture of fast flat cycling, small inclines, and technically challenging corners.

A central area connecting the two loops may also be used for used as a skills training area, for event infrastructure, or a marshalling area for competitions.

It is also a great training venue for a variety of other users including roller skiers and roller bladers.

The Circuit is frequently used by multisport events that also use other Park facilities. For these events and other large-scale cycling competitions, the Criterium Circuit can be accessed from the public road system via a spur on the northern end.

Public Use

The public are welcome to use the Circuit for cycling training, free of charge, if the venue is not booked.

Due to increased usage, University of Canberra Stromlo Forest Park (UC Stromlo) reserves the right to refuse bookings for non-cycling related events such as community events, festivals and birthday parties. The Circuit is a dedicated performance training and racing circuit. For learn to ride, it is encouraged to use the dedicated Learn to Ride Centres located in Belconnen and Greenway.

No powered vehicles, remote control cars, ball sports or dogs are permitted on the circuit, and all non cycling use requires a booking. Please ensure you check the events and closures page to check for bookings before you visit.
